Replacement of Lighting in West Smithfield Medical Library

Work to replace the lights on the ground floor and gallery in the West Smithfield Medical Library, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, will start from week beginning Monday 8th December 2008. The work will take 6-8 weeks and it is currently expected to be completed around the end of January.

The project will involve rewiring and the replacement of all light fittings, so there will be periods of noise, disruption and reduced access to parts of the library. There may also be short-notice closures in January when the 3 large central light fittings are taken down. Library staff will do their best to minimise inconvenience to those using that library during this period and will advertise any necessary closures as soon as these are known.

The project is being undertaken under the aegis of Barts and the London NHS Trust, who are responsible for the West Smithfield Library building. The current lighting system in the library has been in place for many years and is now at the end of its useful life. The new lighting provision will provide a better work and study environment for all as well as improving energy efficiency.
